Drip Irrigation for Vegetables

I accept a little, iv 10 16-ft. raised-bed vegetable garden and a couple of big containers for veggies (height-left photo). Unfortunately, I'thou frequently out of town (camping trips, by and large) and have had a hard time keeping up with watering. I needed some lawn irrigation. So I built this automatic drip watering arrangement. It was simplicity itself. All the parts are off-the-shelf from a dwelling house middle, and price less than $l. I made a grid of brown supply pipe, the pipes about 8 in. apart (height-right photo) and attached a hose plumbing fixtures. I put emitters (the circular black parts in the lesser photo) every pes or and so to give the whole bed a squeamish, even watering. If you've never used this type of drip irrigation system, you'll find a small tool, sold with the emitters, that punctures a pigsty in the plastic pipe. Then the emitters only push into the holes. That'southward it.
For the containers in forepart of the bed (you can see them clearly in the acme photograph), I attached a ¼-in. line with congenital-in emitters, which coils around the height of each container. It goes in just similar a single emitter. A simple battery-powered timer turns the system on every iii days for a thorough soaking. The near time-consuming part was installing an outdoor faucet to provide h2o for the lawn irrigation system.
I've used this rig for 5 years now, and information technology works amazingly well. With a niggling mulch to continue the weeds down, I tin can get away for 2 weeks or more without the need to water.
